02 - The Coral: Roots & Echoes

02
THE CORAL: ROOTS & ECHOES
(2007)

Similar to Rjd2's The Third Hand, Roots & Echoes has been frequently on the turntable in autumn 2007. And I literally mean "turntable" this time, as there was no way of avoiding The Coral whenever I went out to listen and dance to great records. All of The Coral's albums have their great moments and when I heard the band at clubs or bars, it was not even that likely I would get to hear a song from their latest record. But I have chosen this one as my favourite because it is the one I have listened to most frequently. Plus Who's Gonna Find Me definitely is one of the songs of the year for me, and it is on this album. But then again, I only discovered Dreaming Of You (from The Coral) this year, and it should have been inside my heart and head from 2002 on. But maybe I would not have been ready for this sixties-influenced, bright and shining pop/rock music back then, I think I was listening to quite different stuff then. That is why I'd rather have the latest record as my favourite in this list, but all the others are great, too.
Anyway, Rjd2 and The Coral is what I have been listening to heavily over the past few months, and to be honest, maybe this is one of the reason they ended up so high in the ranking. For the records that you listened to in the first half of the year may not be in your short-time memory when you are compiling the list, and the ones that you found out about by the very end of the year may be to fresh to really mean something to you. You will soon see how I tried to overcome this problem in my number one.

Top Ten 2007

The end of december is the time when people go crazy for making lists. lists they wish for christmas, lists of things to do next year and, of course, lists of great stuff of this year. I am no different and just like last year, again I am going to make a list of ten records I discovered in 2007. They have not all been relased this year, but this is the year I discovered them and these ten records quite well sum up what has been going on this year.

Picking my 10 fave albums of 2007 was not difficult at all. But I am still working on the ranking. Whatever, in the next few days till new year I am going to look back on my year 2007 and write a bit about the most fantastic albums that accompanied me through it.

my current fave song

I love this one, I don't know why. it's really playing inside my mind all the time at the moment. I'll try and blog about this, I promise. And about Martin Newell. I announce this here to get some desperately needed motivation.

tba's top ten records 2006

music magazines are full of them, people talk about them in music forums and on christmas parties and i had already planned this one when i started the tba blog in september: my top ten records of 2006. it's not a list of albums released this year – it's a list of records i listened to extensively this year, the oldest one of them released in 1971. records that are part of my year 2006, that i won't ever be able to listen to again without recalling certain things that happened this year – the year, that for me personally was the best i've had so far. i'm trying to explain personal things a bit, aswell. if that's not objective, forgive me, but rankings never are and maybe this makes reading the blog a bit more entertaining.

disco punk

looza is looking for a nice compilation of disco punk, or what we think is called disco punk: electronically remixed, danceable, fashionable rock music. basically guitar sounds mixed with electronic bleeps to get the whole crowd moving.

any recommendations, anyone?

sometimes i just cant get my head around this

due to the fact that the university i study at is currently having a lot of fun sending me from secretary to secretary and telling me all sorts of crazy stuff about whether i can take a certain test or not, i have absolutely no time writing anything here. and i am just not capable of thinking about anything than party propaganda, mass media of the 15th century and illocutinary speech acts.

i am very sorry, but there will be nothing going on in this blog for at least two weeks, unless my dear looza writes something (don't feel obliged, i know you are busy, too).

depending on the degree of madness in my brain after these two weeks time i'll go on posting about nice music later or will probably just rant about ringtones being soo much better than real music. let's hope this won't happen..

hopefully, posts about the reception of music as part of a cultural heritage and about klaus renft, one of former gdr's most frequently forbidden musicians, who died very recently, will follow..

and that's where I come in

Hello people, welcome me, I am the new co-author of this blog. I won't reveal yet who I am, maybe tba will wrote more about this later.

Just the facts that are interesting for this blog :

29 years old, spend alot of time listing to music, in the past I had punk/techno/d&b/hiphop-phases, I still listen to alot of musical styles but now my true love belongs to funk/jazz/soul/disco from the 70s, the other thing is house/tech-music that I love to go clubbing to but listen rarely at home (my speakers just dont pack it).

I am doing music for about 15 years myself now, never on a really professional level, but somehow I have to keep doing it to stay sane. Check www.loozabeats.de for some of the music aswell as my myspace-page.

I started DJing a while ago, yet again not really professional, it's just something that I have fun doing, some mixsets are avaiable at www.xstreamist.com/litm.

And I am collecting rare and obscure records from eastern europe, an obsession you can take a look at www.eastern-crates.com.

Gonna make my first contribution to this blog later tonight.

sonic silence

my computer broke down. no music, no blogging, just the sound of other people typing in this internet cafe where i am right now.

but to quote india.arie, from her song about music:

you're always in my head

track one: intro

I've finally decided this blog is going to be about music. i wonder why it took me so long to make up my mind, as i've always wanted to do a blog about music anyway.

i find myself 'bubbling' about music all the time, so i find it a good idea to record my thoughts here and keep this like a diary of what influences me.
btw: no, i am not a musician, just a person who loves listening to music. i dont know anything about chords, scales or quints and dissonances. but i am the kind of person who knows who played in which band and when and who collaborated with whom. so this is mainly what this blog is gonna be about. i am also really keen on good lyrics, so interesting once will pop up here every once in a while.

i'll start by copying what i already wrote in my myspace blog and then hopefully get the motivation to post as often as i can, preferably every single day.
